DISCOVERY... Northern Thailand is home to a number of ethnic minority groups known broadly as “the hill tribes,” each of which maintains its own culture, language and dress. Political oppression and centuries-old cycles of poverty have left thousands of hill tribe children without parents, without education and without hope. VISION... In 2008, Grace Community, with the help of Asia's Hope, purchased a piece of land near Chiang Mai, Thailand to build an orphanage. By the grace of God and the support of our church members, Grace Community now fully supports two orphanages, Doi Saket 3 and Doi Saket 4. The two orphanages are home to 40 children and a full staff. Grace Community has been given the extraordinary opportunity to provide our orphans not only with food, shelter and clothing, but also with a good education. Even more importantly, we share with our orphans that Jesus Christ loves them, cares about them and wants to have a relationship with them. CONNECTION... In June 2010, a team of two Grace Community Pastors and seven church members visited the orphanages. The team was able to hear firsthand the difficult journeys that the children faced before coming to the orphanages and to see their current joy and hope for a great future. The team was able to give each child a new shirt, towel, cup, and a pair of shoes. They were able to provide the orphanages with an upgraded water system. The children were taken out to eat, treated to ice cream and taken swimming. Team members were moved by the love and affection of the children and their display of discipline and respect. Most of all, the joy of the Lord seen in the children's worship and prayer was an honor to witness. The team left Thailand with an overwhelming conclusion that our orphanages are a remarkable ministry of devoted staff who are sacrificially serving God, providing love, support, discipline, and teaching children in the ways of the Lord.
